Facebook for business: pages and fans
05.15.2009Posted by: Ben
Facebook. Love it or not, it's definitely part of our world today. As it turns out, a lot of our client's customers have facebook profiles. But should the business owners create their own profile and start "facebooking" like so many others out there? A lot of the business owners I know just don't seem to have the time to fiddle with social networking. That's where Facebook pages and fans come in... You see, facebook pages aren't like personal profiles, they are a place for your business or organization that people with profiles can subscribe to by becoming fans and several local businesses have asked us to help out with the process so you can learn from their example! Here are a few Facebook pages (nope, you don't need a Facebook account to see them!):
• Inari Wines
• Mountain Sports Ltd.
• Wm. King Clothiers
Here's the basic idea: You don't want the hassle of dealing with "friend requests" and all the other stuff going on on Facebook, but you'd like to be able to spend 2 minutes a day or so directly communicating with loyal customers about what's going on at your business without feeling like you are spamming them. You create a Facebook account and set it up to basically "private" and then you create a Facebook Page for your business and tell your friends who have facebook accounts to "become fans" of the page (your business).
This is when the magic happens. As soon as one person becomes a fan, all of that person's friends see "So-and-so is now a fan of ACME Widgets!" and then if one of those people happens to like ACME, they become a fan too... and all of THEIR friends see the same message. Within just a few days, many local customers will become fans of you and now you can enter quick messages (or even photos) that will go out to all your fans.
It's not a miracle marketing tool, but it's definitely a low cost, high-impact, easy to do thing that you shouldn't be missing out on. Don't forget to promote your Facebook page (not your personal profile) on your websites and in-store.
Yes, we'd love to help you on get a Facebook fan page up and running!
